A challenge to raise funds for NPYWC Women's Law and Culture

In May 2015 we have committed to walking the full length of the Larapinta Trail, which runs through the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory, from Alice Springs to Mount Sonder. This trail is 223kms in length and contains 12 sections through some of the most spectacular areas this country has to offer.
Why? We want to raise funding for the 2015 NPYWC Law and Culture meeting.
Who? What? Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council (NPYWC for short), has a commitment to sustaining the Women’s Law & Culture on their lands. Women’s only law and culture gives strength to the women. Through these meetings NPYWC members promote their authority; it is how NPY Women’s Council members fuel their passion to speak up on matters important to them and their families and communities.
To ensure succession planning for NPYWC it is imperative that young women to learn and participate in the law and culture of Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara women.
It is extremely costly to run a Women’s Law and Culture event (indemnity insurance, camp equipment, vehicles, transportation, food etc.) and each year they struggle to raise the funds to have an event - Hence this event, let’s step up and help these very strong and empowered indigenous women to maintain their culture and ensure longevity of their organisation!
In addition to committing to solely raising at least $1k, each participant will pay their own costs associated with getting to Alice, food, accommodation the day before and at end of walk, and share of costs for transfers and food drops.
Dates 3/5/15 – 12/5/15 (walk itself) arrive in Alice 2/5/15 and leave 13/5/15
More info::: Aboriginal women of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) lands created NPY Women’s Council to give a voice to women in this region. A service delivery, advocacy and support organisation, NPY Women’s Council is governed and directed by Aboriginal women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of WA, SA and the NT.
It remains a strong voice for its members on issues such as substance abuse, domestic and family violence, child protection, policing and other safety issues, and the needs and aspirations of young people.
At its core NPY Women’s Council is about family and community – walytja. The members’ determination to improve the quality of life for families in the region is what drives the organisation.
This page will be updated throughout the months leading up to the event, with fundraising activities, information about the event and more...
